Visalia Man Denied Parole for 1992 Attempted Murder

On August 11, 2026, a California parole board issued a 3-year denial for Ramon Mendoza, age 57. Mendoza is currently serving a life sentence at the California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility in Corcoran for stabbing multiple people in an apartment.

On October 29, 1992, Mendoza went to the Visalia apartment of his ex-girlfriend, held a knife to her throat, and started to force her into the apartment in search of her current boyfriend, the victim. However, he suddenly pushed her to the ground and ran into the apartment. Mendoza found the victim in the bathroom and proceeded to stab him eight times in the abdominal area. When the ex-girlfriend’s mother attempted to intervene, he stabbed her in the right arm. After his arrest, Mendoza completely denied any involvement in the crimes, contending he had been elsewhere with his brothers at the time.

In the summer of 1993, a jury found Mendoza guilty of attempted murder with a deadly or dangerous weapon causing great bodily injury, and two counts of assault with the use of a deadly/dangerous weapon. He was subsequently sentenced to life in prison.

Mendoza possesses a significant criminal history beginning as a teen. At the time of the noted offense, he was on parole for robbery with the use of a knife. While incarcerated, Mendoza has continued to exhibit violent behavior including assault, slashing, weapons possession, battery and fighting, as well as substance abuse.

This was Mendoza’s second parole hearing after a prior 7-year denial. Mendoza has also waived hearings and stipulated to parole unsuitability since becoming eligible in 2011.
