Parole Denied in 2025 Stabbing Death
On November 5, 2025, TCDA prosecutors secured a 3-year denial of parole for Rogelio Barrera, age 34, in the 2015 murder of his roommate. Barrera is currently incarcerated at the Correctional Training Facility in Soledad.
On June 27, 2015, Barrera and the male victim got into an argument at their rented residence in Cutler. Barrera, while under the influence of methamphetamine and alcohol, stabbed the victim approximately 12 times. Another person at the residence called law enforcement, which responded and arrested Barrera at the scene. A Tulare County jury convicted Barrera of second-degree murder with the use of a knife on August 4, 2017. He was sentenced to 16 years-to-life in prison.
This was Barrera’s first parole hearing. Commissioners cited rules violations, including battery on an inmate, as well as a high risk of future violence as contributing factors to his denial.
The Office of the District Attorney regularly attends life parole hearings and argued against the inmate’s release in this case.
