Parents Sentenced for Death of Baby

Today in Department 6 of the Tulare County Superior Court, the court formally sentenced married couple Daniel Ramirez and Angela Jimenez-Ramirez, both 35, for the 2014 death of their 3-month-old daughter.

On April 26, 2022, a Tulare County jury found Daniel Ramirez guilty of felony involuntary manslaughter and felony child abuse. In addition, he was found guilty of the special allegations of causing great bodily injury and that he committed willful harm or injury resulting in death. Angela Jimenez-Ramirez was found guilty of felony involuntary manslaughter and felony child abuse as well as the special allegation that she committed willful harm or injury resulting in death.

In October of 2014, the child was airlifted from Visalia to Valley Children’s for care after the child became unresponsive. The child later died on October 16, 2014, after being removed from life support. The child was determined to have multiple fractures in several areas of her body.

In late February 2016, a Tulare County criminal grand jury heard evidence from prosecutors and indicted the couple on murder charges. The Visalia Police Department took the defendants into custody on February 26, 2016. Both remained in custody from the arrest through the trial.

Angela Jimenez-Ramirez was sentenced to 8 years in prison. Due to sentencing guidelines and custody credits, Angela Jimenez-Ramirez was released from custody by the court for time served at a hearing following the jury conviction. Daniel Ramirez was sentenced to 13 years in state prison, with credit for time served starting in February 2016. He remains in custody and will be transferred to the California Department of Corrections to serve the remainder of his sentence.

The case was prosecuted by senior TCDA Crimes against Children prosecutors Chelsea Wayt and Sean Sangree, and was investigated by the Visalia Police Department and the District Attorney’s Bureau of Investigations.
