Former Sheriff’s Sergeant Convicted of Domestic Violence, Witness Intimidation

Late Friday afternoon, May 7, 2021, in Department 14 of the Tulare County Superior Court, Visalia Division, a jury found Richard Ramirez, age 47, guilty of crimes against three victims.

Adult Victim 1 –The defendant was convicted of two misdemeanor counts of battery. The crimes occurred in October or November of 2008. Ramirez was charged with forcible rape and spousal rape; however, the jury convicted on the lesser charges of battery.

Adult Victim 2 – The defendant was convicted of one felony count of dissuading a witness, one felony count of dissuading a victim, one felony count of corporal injury on a significant other, one of felony count of stalking, two misdemeanor counts of battery on a significant other, one misdemeanor count of annoying telephone calls, and one misdemeanor count of disobeying a court order. The crimes occurred between May of 2018 and July of 2019.

Minor Victim 3 – The defendant was convicted one felony count of dissuading a witness. The crime occurred in May of 2019.

Sentencing is scheduled for June 30, 2021, where Ramirez faces up to 6 years, 4 months in state prison.

The case was prosecuted by deputy district attorney Katrina Brownson and was investigated by Visalia Police Department and Tulare County District Attorney’s Office Bureau of Investigations.
