District Attorney Urges Governor to STOP Early Release Legislation

District Attorney Urges Governor to STOP Early Release Legislation

District Attorney Tim Ward is urging Governor Gavin Newsom to STOP potential legislation aimed at the early release of felons.

“Senate Bill 81 and Senate Bill 94 are of particular importance to those who have experienced victimization by violent crime. Both of these bills concern the potential early release of serious offenders through reduced parole criteria. SB 94 goes as far as creating an opportunity for the release of inmates sentenced to life without the possibility of parole,” said DA Ward.

Read the bills:

SB 94 – Release for Life Without Parole

SB 81 – Reduced Criteria for Parole

While Sacramento pushes early release for felons, it has actively sought to quash legislation that would protect our children and our communities. The following bills were stopped by legislators:

SB 14 – Makes Human Trafficking a Serious Felony

SB 796 – Increases Criminal Penalties for Threatening Violence against a School or Place of Worship

SB 44 – Increases Penalties for Distribution of Fentanyl
