Attempted Murder, Assault Charges Filed in Stabbing of Fresno County Prosecutor
District Attorney Tim Ward has announced the filing of criminal charges in Fresno County Superior Court against Dustin Crawford, age 42, for the August 20, 2026, stabbing attack of a Fresno County District Attorney prosecutor near the courthouse in downtown Fresno.
Crawford is charged with assault on a public official, attempted murder, and assault with a deadly weapon. The charges are enhanced with special allegations that the crimes caused great bodily injury and that Crawford possesses prior criminal convictions.
An arraignment is scheduled for tomorrow, August 25, at 8:30 am in Department 31 of the Fresno County Superior Courthouse (1100 Van Ness Avenue) where a future court date will be set.
If convicted of all charges, Crawford faces life in prison.
At the request of Fresno County District Attorney Lisa Smittcamp, the Tulare County District Attorney’s Office will prosecute the case in Fresno County Superior Court.
