Tulare Man Sentenced to Life in Prison for Murder

Today in Department 5 of the Tulare County Superior Court, Visalia Division, Judge Teresa Estrada Mullaney sentenced Kashmer Bailey, age 24, to 82 years-to-life in prison for murder. On March 24, 2019, Bailey was found guilty of one count of first-degree murder with the special allegation that he personally and intentionally discharged a firearm causing death, and one count of attempted murder.

Around 1:21 am in the morning of February, 27, 2016, Bailey was walking in a southwest Tulare neighborhood after an argument with his girlfriend. After pacing in an intersection for several minutes, Bailey approached the victims who were standing in the yard of their residence. When the victims inquired of him, Bailey produced a revolver and began shooting at them. One victim, a 24-year-old man, was struck in the head while the other victim, a 27-year-old man, evaded the shots. After firing all of his shots, Bailey fled and was chased by the surviving victim as well as another witness. The pursuit was captured by a number of security cameras in the area. Bailey was taken into custody only 1 hour and 20 minutes later and one block away from the crime scene by Tulare Police Department Officers who saw Bailey walking. Witnesses immediately identified Bailey as the shooter. Bailey was found to have gunshot residue on his hands.

The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Sean Sangree and investigated by Corporal David Hastings of the Tulare Police Department.
