Porterville Man Sentenced to Life in Prison for Murder

On June 28, 2018, in Department 19 of the Tulare County Superior Court, South County Justice Center, Judge Antonio Reyes sentenced John Moisa IV, age 26, of Porterville, to 50 years-to-life in prison for murder. On April 6, 2018, a jury convicted Moisa of one count of first-degree premeditated murder with the special allegation of intentional discharge of a firearm.

Around 1:30 in the morning on August 25, 2013, the adult male victim attended a party with his family at a residence in the city of Porterville. Moisa was also at the party. A disagreement ensued between Moisa and the victim, and the victim walked out of the residence with a family member. Moisa followed and shot the victim six times with a revolver, predominately in the back. Moisa fled the scene and ditched the gun, but was located and arrested the next day. The victim died from his wounds shortly after the shooting.

The case was prosecuted by Senior Deputy District Attorney Stacy Plantier and investigated by the Porterville Police Department.
