Woodlake Man Convicted of First-Degree Burglary, Criminal Threats

Yesterday in Department 10 of the Tulare County Superior Court, Visalia Division, Judge Kathryn Montejano presiding, a jury convicted Wilfredo Avalos, age 25, of first-degree residential burglary, criminal threats, and dissuading a witness by force or threat. Each count is a felony and considered a strike offense.

In the evening of August 26, 2017, a Woodlake couple heard a noise outside their home and saw the defendant walking with a neighbor’s television set. When they confronted him and called the police, Avalos threatened the husband by telling him that if he (Avalos) got in to trouble, “I will come back here and kill you.” The police arrived shortly thereafter and arrested him.

Avalos faces up to seven years in state prison at sentencing scheduled for November 20, 2018, in Superior Court.

The case was prosecuted by Supervising Deputy District Attorney Cindy Underwood and investigated by the Woodlake Police Department.
