Parents Found Guilty of Child Abuse, Death of Baby

Yesterday afternoon in Department 6 of the Tulare County Superior Court, a jury found married couple Daniel Ramirez and Angela Jimenez-Ramirez, both 35, guilty in the death of their 3-month-old daughter.

Daniel Ramirez was found guilty of felony involuntary manslaughter and felony child abuse. In addition, he was found guilty of the special allegations of causing great bodily injury and that he committed willful harm or injury resulting in death. Angela Jimenez-Ramirez was found guilty of felony involuntary manslaughter and felony child abuse as well as the special allegation that she committed willful harm or injury resulting in death.

In October of 2014, the child was airlifted from Visalia to Valley Children’s for care after the child became unresponsive. The child later died on October 16, 2014, after being removed from life support. The child was determined to have multiple fractures in several areas of her body.

In late February 2016, a Tulare County criminal grand jury heard evidence from prosecutors and indicted the couple on murder charges. The Visalia Police Department took the defendants into custody on February 26, 2016. Both remained in custody from the arrest through the trial.

Due to sentencing guidelines for the conviction, Angela Jimenez-Ramirez was released from custody for time served at a hearing this morning in Superior Court. In accordance with sentencing guidelines for his conviction, Daniel Ramirez remains in custody with bail set at $100,000. Formal sentencing is scheduled for May 24, 2022.

The case was prosecuted by senior TCDA Crimes against Children prosecutors Chelsea Wayt and Sean Sangree, and was investigated by the Visalia Police Department and the District Attorney’s Bureau of Investigations.
