Murderer Who Stabbed Victim 55 Times Denied Parole
At a virtual hearing on April 24, 2023, TCDA prosecutors secured a three-year denial of parole for Raul Viveros, age 32, for the 2010 murder of a Tulare woman. Viveros is currently serving a life sentence at the California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility in Corcoran.
On September 22, 2010, Tulare Police Department officers were dispatched to a residence for a report of a woman who had been stabbed. When officers arrived, they found the victim unresponsive with multiple stab wounds to her face, head, and upper torso. She was pronounced deceased by medical personnel shortly later. An autopsy later determined the victim was stabbed 55 times.
During the investigation, officers learned that Viveros lived at the home with the victim, but he and the victim’s vehicle were missing from the scene. After officers issued a “Be On The Lookout,” California Highway Patrol officers found Viveros near the Grapevine the next day. Viveros was located 17 miles from the vehicle and found with the vehicle’s ignition keys. At the time of his arrest, he was found with what appeared to be blood stains on his pants and blood smudges on the vehicle keys.
In September 2012, Viveros was found guilty of second-degree murder with the special allegation of use of a deadly weapon and was sentenced to 16 years-to-life in prison.
This was Viveros’ first parole suitability hearing. The Office of the District Attorney regularly attends life parole hearings and argued against the inmate’s release in this case.
