Life Sentence in North County Murder
Today in Department 10 of the Tulare County Superior Court, the court sentenced Marc Briseno, age 27, to life in prison for the 2020 stabbing murder of a man near Dinuba.
In the afternoon of September 27, 2020, Tulare County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the area of Avenue 400 near Road 104 regarding a male subject allegedly passed out in a pickup. When deputies arrived, they discovered the man deceased and knife protruding from his lower abdomen. Deputies were able to obtain latent finger and palm prints from the vehicle. A witness account stated two men had fled from the scene in a black Dodge Charger.
On September 30, a palm print left at the scene was identified as Marc Briseno. Two days later on October 1, Briseno was questioned by law enforcement and admitted that he and his roommate, co-defendant Cristian Miranda, age 25, followed the victim from Tulare all the way to the outskirts of Dinuba for over 40 minutes, and were involved in a physical altercation with the victim, during which Briseno stabbed and killed the victim. Detectives learned that the men intended to rob the victim.
At trial on February 1, 2024, a jury found Briseno guilty of second-degree murder and use of a deadly weapon. Co-defendant Miranda pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in January 2022 and was sentenced to six years in prison.
According to current California sentencing laws, Briseno must serve 15 years before being considered for parole.
The case was prosecuted by Supervising Deputy District Attorney Kalina Laleva.
