Ivanhoe Woman Convicted of Robbery, Attempted Carjacking
Late yesterday afternoon in Department 6 of the Tulare County Superior Court, Visalia Division, a jury convicted Amy Kimble, age 32, of robbery, attempted carjacking, and two counts of misdemeanor petty theft.
Around 12:30 am on February 1, 2018, in Ivanhoe, the victim was woken up by her car alarm and barking dogs. Looking through the window, she saw a flashlight being shown in her car. When she went outside, she discovered Kimble in the car. Kimble identified herself as being part of the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office. The victim went back inside her home to retrieve her phone and car keys, and again confronted Kimble outside. At this time, Kimble fled. The victim called dispatch and gave chase. About a block away, the victim noticed Kimble was carrying multiple pieces of stolen property, including a flashlight, which the victim grabbed from Kimble. Kimble in turn grabbed the car keys from the victim and ran back to the car, got in it, and turned it on. The victim again gave chase and jumped in the car, disengaging the keys. Kimble then hit the victim in the mouth and struggled with the victim until deputies arrived.
Upon further investigation, deputies found a stolen purse and laptop of another victim who was visiting a friend down the street. Kimble had broken into her vehicle and left pieces of identifying information.
Sentencing is scheduled for July 8, 2019, in Superior Court where Kimble faces up to 5 years in prison.
The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Vicente Reyes and was investigated by Deputy Matthew Conley of the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office and Officer Ryan Yates of the Tulare Police Department.
