Farmersville Man Sentenced to Life in Prison for Attempted Murder, Third Strike
Today in Department 6 of the Tulare County Superior Court, Farmersville man Randy Scroggins, age 44, was sentenced to 81 years-to-life in prison for attempting to kill his wife.
On December 13, 2019, a jury found Scroggins guilty of attempted murder, assault with a firearm, domestic violence, and being felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. The conviction constituted Scroggin’s third strike under California’s “Three Strikes” law.
Scroggins possesses prior strike convictions for criminal threats in 2002 and criminal threats and dissuading a witness in 2004.
On May 22, 2019, after a lengthy argument that involved pulling his wife by the hair, Scroggins shot her with a 9mm handgun through the arm and chest. Scroggins then fled the residence. A massive manhunt was launched by law enforcement to locate him. His wife was taken to Kaweah Delta Hospital where she recovered from her injuries. Scroggins was located back at the residence twelve days later on June 2, 2019, and was taken into custody after a seven-hour standoff with the Tulare County Sheriff’s SWAT Team.
The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Katrina Brownson and was investigated by the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office and the Farmersville Police Department.
